An IoT gateway is a network device that acts as a bridge between local sensors/data loggers and the cloud. It collects data from multiple connected devices via protocols like RS485 MODBUS, Bluetooth, or WiFi, then transmits the aggregated data to a cloud platform for remote monitoring, alerting, and reporting.
Gateways are essential in large facilities where dozens of monitoring points need to feed into a single centralised dashboard. They can also interface with existing industrial equipment — such as Dixell controllers in cold rooms — without replacing legacy hardware.
